BI Policy Hampers Property Sector Growth
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Eddy Hussi, chairman of the Real Estate
Indonesia Association (REI), said that property sector growth in the first semester of 2014 had slowed down to
by 10 to 15 percent compared to the same period last year.
He said that high Loan to Value (LTV) interest rate
determined by Bank Indonesia (BI) is one of the
causes of the property sales weakening. Unstable rupiah exchange rate
and presidential election contributed to the slowdown.
“Less demand is make a little
development, but no
project has been stopped,” said Eddy. With the end of presidential
election, Eddy predicted that the property sector
will continue to growth in the second semester. However, he is still waiting for the new government’s policy
before determining growth target.
“We are thankful that the presidential
election run smoothly, but we will see the
next government’s policy,” he said.
